AI Governance and Acceptable Use Policy Pack

Your staff are already using AI. This pack gives you the policies, registers and controls to make that safe, and the records to show you took care.

EdgeBefore AI Governance and Acceptable Use Policy Pack cover

India has chosen not to pass a separate AI law for now. That does not mean AI is unregulated. The DPDP Act governs personal data that goes into AI tools. The IT Act and the 2026 amendments to the IT Rules deal with impersonation and synthetic media. Consumer, copyright, employment and anti-discrimination laws still apply. And the India AI Governance Guidelines, released by MeitY in November 2025, set out what the Government expects of organisations that develop or deploy AI.

The AI Governance and Acceptable Use Policy Pack turns all of that into a working programme for an Indian SME: find the AI you use, classify it by risk, write rules staff will follow, buy tools safely, keep humans meaningfully in charge, and handle incidents. Every legal statement is cited to the official text.

What’s inside

Four files. One AI rulebook.

The AI Governance Guide: 95 pages

  • The Indian position explained: the seven sutras, six pillars and practical guidelines for industry, and what is binding versus voluntary
  • The laws that already apply to AI: IT Act offences, the 2026 synthetic content rules, and the Guidelines’ own map of laws to AI harms
  • The DPDP Act across the AI life cycle: roles, lawful grounds, notice, the section 8(3) accuracy duty, erasure, children and transfers
  • A four-source method for finding shadow AI, and a four-tier risk classification
  • Writing an acceptable use policy people actually follow
  • Roles, committees and board reporting, sized for small organisations
  • Buying AI tools: the questions that matter and the contract terms to secure
  • Human oversight that works: five tests, circuit breakers and monitoring
  • Transparency and labelling, AI in hiring and people management, customer-facing AI and grievances
  • Securing AI use, AI agents (drawing on CERT-In’s 2026 advisories), and AI incidents
  • ISO/IEC 42001: what its public description says and how the pack lines up, without overclaiming
  • Sector notes, a 90-day rollout plan, common mistakes, FAQ, glossary and index

Policies and templates (36 pages, 13 documents)

Who it’s for

For the teams setting the rules.

Founders and directors, compliance and legal teams, CTOs and IT heads, HR leaders, and the consultants who advise Indian SMEs on technology risk.

Why teams use it
  • Honest about the law. Binding duties are kept separate from government guidance and from EdgeBefore practice, so you know which is which.
  • Built for SMEs. One accountable person and a monthly meeting can run it. Controls scale with risk.
  • Ready to adopt. Policies and forms you can adapt in an afternoon, each linked to the chapter that explains it.
  • Joined up. Links to the EdgeBefore Breach Response Kit for incident reporting and to the DPDP Starter Kit for wider data protection work.

Questions

Before you buy.

Is this legal advice?
No. The pack is general information to help you build an AI governance programme. It is not legal advice and does not replace advice from a qualified advocate on your facts. No regulatory or other outcome is guaranteed.
Does it make us ISO/IEC 42001 certified?
No. The pack does not reproduce the standard and makes no certification claim. It explains the standard’s public description and how the pack’s documents line up with a Plan-Do-Check-Act management system, which gives you a head start if you later pursue certification.
Is there an AI law in India?
Not a dedicated statute as at 23 October 2026. Existing laws apply to AI use, and the India AI Governance Guidelines set the Government’s expectations. The pack explains both.
We are a small business. Is this too much?
The guide shows how to scale it. A small firm can start with the acceptable use policy, an approved tool list and a simple register.
How current is it?
Current to 23 October 2026, including the February 2026 amendments to the IT Rules and CERT-In’s October 2026 advisory on AI agents.
What format are the files?
PDF: guide, policies and templates, checklists and quick card, delivered as a single ZIP.
Can we share it across our organisation?
The pack is licensed for internal use by the purchasing organisation; policies and templates may be adapted for that organisation’s own use.
